Meet Brian Cabral

Brian Cabral (he/él), MA, is a Chicagoan, Sociologist and PhD Candidate at the Race, Inequality, and Language in Education (RILE) program at Stanford’s Graduate School of Education. His intellectual interests lie at the interplay between race, place, language, and carcerality. Currently, his research focuses on re-articulating contemporary modes of confinement, school-carceral relations, and difference-making/-maintenance projects. Simultaneously, he carefully engages with multiple and contradictory carceral and abolitionist perspectives and geographies in various education spaces. He believes that a justice condition for youth is only achievable with others in the struggle. Youth as a category and a politic, then, is central to his work. Brian is thus politically committed to the broader vision and efforts of the Walkout! Lab for Youth Justice.
